Servus!
Mein Name ist Katharina Tanzberger, ich lebe in Wien und habe Architektur studiert.
Neben meiner Arbeit in verschiedenen Architekturbüros möchte ich auch über anderes schreiben, so zum Beispiel die verschiedenen Cafés die ich auf meinen Spaziergängen durch die Stadt finde, oder wo man in Wien norwegischen Ziegenkäse bekommt oder ungewöhnliche echt wienerische Souvenirs finden kann.
Auch wenn ich Wienerin bin und hier lebe ist mein Leben immer internationaler geworden, ich habe viele Freunde mit denen ich auf englisch spreche, habe ein zeit lang in Oslo studiert und habe schon vor vielen Jahren Esperanto gelernt...
Dieser Blog wird deshalb auch manchmal Einträge auf englisch oder gar Esperanto haben, die nicht notwendiger weise in die anderen Sprachen übersetzt werden.
Schön, dass Ihr meinen Blog besucht und bitte hinterlasst mir auch Kommentare, das Leben ist doch vor allem Kommunikation, odr?!

Ende Januar, Anfang Februar
eine etwas winterliche Woche, bißchen kalt, viel grau, bißchen blau... alles in allem scheint es wirklich sinnvoll für den Himmel über Wien viel grau zu verwenden... bin schon gespannt auf den sommer...
Meiner Oma war immer kalt, immer wollte Sie, dass wir uns wärmer anziehen, weil Ihr so kalt war. Meist hat Sie alle Flammen beim Gasherd angezündet, damit Ihr wärmer wird. Einmal hat Sie den kleinen Schwedenofen im Wohnzimmer so stark eingeheizt, dass das Ofenrohr zu glühen begonnen hat. Natürlich gabs dann einen Feuerwehreinsatz. Kein Wunder, hat Sie doch immer alles verbrannt, was ging. Mich haben die Feuerwehrmänner als kleines Kind natürlich mächtig beeindruckt.

End of january, beginning of february
a somewhat winterly week, bit cold, loads of grey, some sun and blue-ish sky. it is more and more clear to me, that i need all kinds of grey for the viennese sky! hopefully the sommermonths will be more interesting.
My granny was always cold, all the time she wanted us to put on warmer clothes, because she was cold. Most of the times she turned on all flames on the gasstove, to have it warmer. one time she fired up the little oven in the livingroom so much, the stovepipe started glowing. Ofcourse we called the firebrigade. No wonder, she always put anything remotely burnable into the stove. I was highly impressed by the fireman as a little girl.

...selber Himmel, andere Woche?
tsja, nicht ohne Berechtigung hab ich mehrere Grautöne für dieses Projekt vorbereitet, aber dass es andauernd so trist grau sein muß in der Früh ist dann doch etwas deprimierend. Wir sind halt in Wien, und es ist Winter. Immerhin hat es geschneit - ein bißchen...
Meine Oma hat einen Computer mit Internetverbindung gehabt, als das noch nicht so üblich war wie heute, mein Onkel hat Ihr alles installiert. Wir haben oft emails geschrieben und sie hat bis vor kurzem noch monatlich ein Matherätsel per Newsletter abonniert.

same sky, different week?
there was a reasoning behind picking out several shades of grey for this project, did i know that vienna tends to have grey skies - but nearly every day of the week in the morning? It is Vienna after all, at least we had some snow.
My granny had a pc with an internetconnection at a time when it wasn't such an ordinary thing as today, my uncle installed everything for her. We often wrote emails and until recently she still got a math-riddle each month via Newsletter.
alles grau?
eigenartige Woche, der Himmel in der Früh war fast immer grau, trist, aber ansich war es doch sehr warm (bis zu 14°C?! im Jänner?!)
Ich hab davon nicht viel mitbekommen, war krank zuhause und bin zum Teesackerl mutiert...
Immer wenn ich mit meiner Oma im ersten Bezirk, Wien, beim Kornhäuslturm vorbeiging, erzählte sie mir, daß Adalbert Stifter hier die Sonnenfinsternis am 8.Juli 1842 beobachtete. Solche Naturphänomene haben sie stark fasziniert.

strange week, mostly grey morningskies, darstly, but also extremely warm for a january (14°C!)
I didn't really enjoy anything of it, being sick at home and trying to transform into a teabag...
Whenever i passed the Kornhäuslturm in vienna's first district with my granny, she told me about Adalbert Stifter witnessing the solar eclipse on the 8th of july, 1842. phenomena like this were fascinating to her.

jaja, bald ist es nun wieder so weit, ein Jahr ist vorbei und das neue beginnt. Meist denk ich mir, dass das ja eh nur ein Blödsinn ist, und ich werd die ersten Wochen im Neuen Jahr das Datum falsch schreiben, sonst gehts doch im Leben (Arbeit) ganz gewohnt weiter...
Doch vor ein paar Tagen hab ich mir das letzte Flow Magazine gekauft und finde es ein wirklich gut gemachtes, interessantes und nettes Magazin. Einer der Artikel darin beschreibt 365-Tage Projekte, und sowas muß man mir nicht zweimal sagen, fand ich immer schon eine Superidee (wer kann sich an Smoke erinnern und die großartigen Fotos von der Straßenecke beim Geschäft?!), also los gehts!
Okay, its now been 15days of nerdwars.
so far, i do like it a lot. i have been able to answer three of the 5 challenges with more or less good answers and projects.
i have to confess though, that its a lot harder for me to tie-in the projects with my nerdery (i am in Team fishbiscuit aka Lost-series-themed) than i would have guessed!
oh and i proposed a dissertation! how fun is that! i will be making a cabled sweater and learn about Rhizomes on the side. very cool!

Leider ist Nerd Wars wieder ein ravelryspiel, dass auf englisch gespielt wird, eine deutssprachige Gruppe habe ich nicht gefunden.
Testknitting for Laylock
Every now and then i like to do a testknit, its interesting to get a peak into the design process of a designer, exciting to be able to knit something before the pattern is officially released and it gives a sense of accomplishment to finish a testknit in time for the designer.
Testknitting for Derya Davenport aka Laylock is very nice, since her patterns are great.
In this case she is back with a new recipe for sideways shawls - making two versions of a sideways shawl totally customisable! what a great idea! Take her pattern, use whatever stitchpattern you like from any stitchdictionary and off you knit!
She is planning to release the revised pattern on June 20th, so keep an eye on her blog!

My parents live in Sendai. Many friends also live there.
For my hometown and Japan which had suffered serious tsunami damage, I had thought what I was able to do from Shanghai.
Then, I decided to sell my pattern and to contribute the total amounts I received for Japan to the Japanese Red Cross Society.
